Gas network ready to start!

Last Friday, December 13, the biogas hub in Noord Deurningen (the Netherlands) of the biogas cooperative “IJskoud” (Ice Cold) was officially opened. Tijs de Bree, member of the Provincial Executive in Overijssel and responsible for the energy transition in the province, performed the opening act together with the members of the IJskoud cooperative, the director of Cogas and the biogas customers. The gas network currently supplies biogas to two customers.

CCS is very proud to be as a cooperating partner. The IJskoud cooperative currently has 6 dairy farmers that produce biogas. Together they produce nearly 1.6 million cubic meters of biogas per year. This is enough biogas to replace 1 million cubic meters of natural gas. This makes Noord Deurningen an energy neutral location in one fell swoop! And that’s not all, the use of a biogas network has another great advantage besides CO2 savings. The farms emit less nitrogen because the manure from the dairy farmers goes fresh to a digester. And that is a welcome solution in light of the current nitrogen problems in the Dutch agriculture.

The biogas is being use by two industrial partners. In this way the biogas in Noord-Deurningen can help with the energy transition, which is also extremely important for the industrial sector. The next step is now to expand. We hope not only to welcome new buyers of the biogas, but also that more dairy farmers are interested in joining. Energy cooperative IJskoud hopes to grow to more than 20 dairy farmers in the coming years. CCS can only applaud this and therefore helps the cooperative to realize their goals. The larger the gas network becomes, the better it is for the Dutch energy transition!
