Heat study new BMW foundry Shenyang

For the new foundry of BMW in Chinese Shenyang, CCS executed a heat study. Project leader Gemco Engineers asked CCS to execute a study into the possibilities of heat recovery in the processes within the foundry. To this end, the heat flows have been mapped, such as the flue gases from different ovens to the heating of the building. Also important were the locations and availability of the heat flows. The optimal temperature ranges for the heat exchangers were determined using pinch analysis. For the possible options for heat exchange, the investments and ROI periods were calculated so that the various options could be ranked according to economic feasibility. Depending on the options chosen, a saving of 1.8 MW could be achieved with a ROI period of over 4.5 years.
